Episode 28: Welcome to Pushing Up Lilies, I'm your host Julie Mattson. Today I'm looking into another Valentine's day murder that I found interesting and very sad. Back in 2010, Stacey Schoeck asked her husband Richard to meet her at the park for a romantic Valentine's day rendezvous. Once there, Richard did not see his wife as planned, instead he came face to face with hit-man Reginald Coleman, a personal trainer who went by the name Mr. Results, who was hired by Stacey to kill him. Listen in to hear the full story...

0:06 Welcome to Pushing Up Lilies.
0:08 I'm your host, Julie Mattson Pushing Up Lilies is a weekly true crime podcast with spine tingling, unusual and terrifyingly true stories from my perspective as a forensic death investigator and a sexual assault nurse examiner.
0:24 Do I have some stories for you?
0:26 Are you ready?
0:30 Valentine's day is just around the corner.
0:33 I hope everyone is prepared.
0:35 And has your gift buying done.
0:38 We're gonna talk this week about a bit of a love triangle, which is never a good thing.
0:45 This one actually occurred in Georgia again on February 14 and this was back in 2010.
0:55 The murder itself took place at Belton Bridge Park, which Has boat ramps that actually access the Chattahoochee River.
1:05 For a while after this murder, the park was closed to the public.
1:09 There have actually been five homicides over the past 31 years at this park.
1:17 I guess it's a well known place to go.
1:21 But this one is kind of interesting.
1:25 Again, just a typical love triangle as well.
1:29 But Richard Schoeck, who was married to Stacy Schoeck, was Stacey's fifth husband.
1:37 He was 46 years old.
1:40 He was a hot air balloon enthusiast.
1:45 Him and Stacey met and he actually adopted two of her boys.
1:51 Everything seemed to be great.
1:53 Again on the outside.
1:56 Sometimes everything looks perfect.
1:59 We see a family and everything seems to be great.
2:04 We see a picture of them and everyone's smiling and everyone seems to be happy.
2:09 But you never know what's going on behind closed doors and I've been guilty of that in the past putting on a happy face in public when it's not okay.
2:24 This was a very similar case.
2:27 So Stacy was a office manager at the DeKalb County spinal clinic.
2:37 She had a work colleague named Lynitra Ross.
2:43 Lynitra had a boyfriend named Reginald Coleman.
2:46 Stacy had told Lynitra that she thought that Richard was molesting her boys based on a comment that one of the kids had made, which was later found to be misconstrued.
3:02 But when Stacy voiced this to Lynitra, Lynitra said, hey, my boyfriend Reginald Coleman actually has murdered people before and maybe we should talk to him and see if he'll take care of this for you.
3:17 It turns out Reginald was also a personal trainer, he was nicknamed Mr. Results and he would come up sometimes at lunchtime and do training sessions at the clinic.
3:31 So Stacey had actually had the opportunity to meet Reginald her and Reginald and Lynitra decided to go to a little Mexican restaurant and talk about their plans.
3:47 Stacy gave Lynitra the house that she had owned.
3:52 Lynitra had been renting it and renovating it in lieu of paying rent to keep her quiet because she knew what was gonna go down. Stacy gave her the house and paid Coleman $10,000 and also gave him an 09 impala that had belonged to her dad that she had been trying to sell, he apparently needed a weapon.
4:17 So she gave him $600 to buy a gun.
4:22 So the plan was Stacey was going to tell her husband that she wanted to meet him at the Belton Bridge Park.
4:30 And the two were going to exchange romantic Valentine's day cards away from the kids and away from everybody else.
4:40 It was gonna be just a private moment.
4:42 That was her plan to get him away from everybody so that this hit could take place.
4:50 Now of course, it see seems like as in every situation when this happens, there was a $500,000 life insurance policy involved that Richard Schoeck had and Stacey also would be getting that Of course, again, why do people think that no one's ever gonna figure out that they're behind this and they truly think that they're gonna end up with that money still just blows my mind because we all see the news.
5:18 It happens every time and they get caught.
5:22 Anyway.
5:22 It later comes out to that Stacy hired a guy named Juan Reyes who had no experience at all to be a surgical assistant at the clinic where she worked and the two of them were having an affair.
5:39 So it had been going on for about six or seven months.
5:43 She admitted to the affair when this all went to court.
5:48 She had also testified that she did believe that her husband was molesting one or both of her younger son's.
5:57 She also testified against Lynitra Ross and outed her to avoid the death penalty.
6:05 Richard believing that he's going to have a romantic evening with his wife actually drove to the part to meet her and that is when Coleman showed up and shot him, he was shot six times.
6:23 One bullet went through his right hand and then through his torso he suffered two shots to the face and three shots to the chest.
6:34 So when Stacy arrived at the park she found Richard outside of his truck and he had been shot.
6:43 She called 911.
6:45 And we all know what happens from there.
6:48 Now when this all goes to court of course, you know cell phones always come in handy right during investigations we all know the police are gonna get your cell phone, there was proof on her phone that Ross, Coleman and Stacey all communicated before during and after the murder took place.
7:10 They also went to the scene beforehand to scope it out to decide where is Stacy gonna tell her husband to meet her, where is this gonna take place at?
7:22 You know, scope out where the remote area is, where there aren't likely to be any people so that this can be pulled off without any hitches.
7:32 Now, Lynitra Ross never admitted to her role.
7:35 She kind of pretended she didn't have anything to do with it.
7:39 Of course Stacy still testified against her because she didn't want the death penalty.
7:45 But it's kind of funny again because in the investigation the IT Department where Stacey worked had noticed that all of her emails that came in and out through her work email on the weekend of the murders had all been emptied out of her inbox.
8:03 That was odd.
8:05 And so he actually came forward and said hey this is also probably another piece of evidence against her.
8:12 Now Stacey also told Richard's sister that she was having this affair with Juan and she was afraid that if she divorced Richard that he would get custody of her boys.
8:26 I guess maybe she thought it would make her look like an unfit mother because he had actually legally adopted them and they were his kids, that there was a possibility that he would get custody of both of them.
8:42 So does that make any sense?
8:44 And we all see this happen?
8:46 People are not thinking let's just kill him and let's communicate on our cell phone with everyone involved and make it super easy for the police to catch us.
8:58 And of course there's always that life insurance policy involved criminals are dumb.
9:03 I mean I'm sure the police love dumb criminals, they're much easier to catch.
9:07 But this happens every time and you see it on the news and it's like do these people not know like they're gonna get caught?
9:15 People that do this get caught all the time.
9:17 But Stacy honestly had convinced herself that Richard was doing something wrong and she said she didn't want the police or a divorce.
9:28 She wanted him dead and that was a statement that she made.
9:32 So hours before the murder though, she let him cook dinner for her and her grandparents, she knows he's about to die or get shot.
9:43 She hopes he's about to die at this point and she allows this poor guy to actually cook dinner for her.
9:51 Now, all three of these perpetrators got life in prison.
9:57 And so Stacy is currently at the Pulaski state prison and that's in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
10:04 She wanted the murder to look like a robbery and when Coleman did not take Richard's belongings, she was upset.
10:14 She thought that that would help.
10:17 Maybe she thought that it would not make her look like a suspect, that it would just look like a robbery.
10:24 So that was her plan and that was what they had discussed, she wanted him to take his wallet and to make it look like a robbery.
10:36 That would kind of make the police think, oh that she's not involved and kind of lead them another direction.
10:42 I mean either way they would have figured it out.
10:44 It would have all come back around to her.
10:47 But that was her plan to throw the police off and to slow the investigation.
10:54 Also, the plan was to only shoot him once in the head.
11:01 This was all like very carefully thought out.
11:04 I mean this was discussed before at the Mexican restaurant when the three met, you know, here's what we're gonna do, we're gonna make this look like a robbery.
11:12 I want you to take some of his belongings.
11:14 I only want you to shoot him once in the head.
11:17 You know, I don't really want him to suffer, I just want to get this over with basically Stacy was upset that Coleman did not carry out her wishes.
11:28 Of course she did everything she could to make it look like it was justified.
11:35 You know, she told everyone she thought he was molesting her children, she was having this affair.
11:41 She didn't want him to get custody of the kids if she divorced him.
11:45 I think she thought that it would make her look good to the jury if she let them know that she didn't want him to suffer.
11:53 She just wanted him to get shot one time in the head and get it over with.
11:57 And anyway we know it turns out he got shot six times.
12:02 So again, love triangles never turn out good.
12:07 So when I was doing research of course we all know, a love triangle concerns three people.
12:13 But there's also there's also such a thing as a love cube.
12:17 A love cube is supposed to be worse.
12:21 But that is when four people were involved just like a love triangle love cube causes the same amount of distrust anxiety and hatred and a lot of people who get involved in love triangles and love cubes are basically seeking attention.
12:39 So anyway, this again, something that we see a lot where two people are in love with the same person or someone's cheating and this third person gets involved.
12:53 Nothing good ever comes of it.
12:55 And this is just another situation where it didn't, I tried to do a little research on Stacey to figure out who her previous husbands were and why they divorced and exactly what happened.
13:08 I couldn't find any information on them, I'm sure they wanted it that way.
13:12 But Richard was her fifth husband.
13:16 It's fair to assume that she had relationship issues of some sort before all this happened.
13:24 So just another interesting story.
13:26 Again, it did happen on Valentine's day, which I think it's super sad and makes it even worse because I mean it's a day you're supposed to show your love for somebody and she has him murdered when he innocently thinks he's going to exchange valentine cards with his wife at a quite romantic park.
13:47 I mean sad, but how ironic is it that she hires a guy whose nickname is Mr. Results.
13:54 It's a crazy world.
